Motionhouse ‘Driven’

Following on from the sand and slings tale that was ‘Perfect’, Motionhouse Dance Theatre return to the touring world with their latest work ‘Driven’. No sand this time but we do have lots of flying about, stools, projections, magic walls and a whole lot more, we think their going to need a bigger touring truck!

In fact there is so much stuff on the stage its amazing to us, here in TheLab™, that somebody doesn’t crack their head on somebody or something as they literally fly around the performance space.

‘Driven’ contains Motionhouse’s signature, non-stop flying and catching approach to dance making. Given the constricted free space the dancers have to work it it looks all the more impressive.

Many of  you will recognise the signature moments in the piece from an average day at work; office flirtation, a night out, dancing, drinking, a relationship gone wrong and a dead body on the morticians slab (ok, maybe not the last one but you get the picture!) ‘Driven’ is about regular folks trying to make it through the day and night.

Motionhouse speak of the work thus;

“Motionhouse explodes on stage in a head-on collision with reality. Five performers race in the fast lane, dodging the flying debris, as their lives literally fall apart around them. Driven presents life as a series of significant moments, seductive decisions to be made and their physical consequences.

Another heart in your mouth dance theatre production from Motionhouse, Driven is all about wanting MORE… shining the spotlight on the motivating forces that drive our lives. Spinning in and out of offices, bars and homes, emotions defy gravity and it’s hard to keep your feet on the ground – in reaching for the next thing you risk losing everything.”

‘Driven’ is performed by Kylie Sudds, Stuart Waters, Junior Cunningham, Sioda Martin and Rachel McDermott with choreography by Kevin Finnan and original music by Sophy Smith.

The next performance is on May 30 and 31 and the Salisbury International Festival in er…. Salisbury! More info from the company’s website.
