Rutherford Dance Company ‘Never Going Home Again’

New dance company on the block time with Rutherford Dance Company and their new piece ‘Never Going Home Again’ created by the titular artistic director Adam Rutherford a long time professional dancer and rehearsal director with 2Faced Dance Company among others.

‘Never Going Home Again’ takes a look at the increasingly anarchic situation in Russia concerning government abuse and restrictions being placed on members of the LGBT community.

The company tell us this much about the work;

“Never Going Home Again is a 30 minute contemporary dance production. It is a trio of dancers, 2 male and 1 female, who investigate the differences defined by sexual orientation, focusing on the reaction of ‘coming-out’. Never Going Home Again culminates in a professional live performance that is the result of extensive research and development. A key area of interest is the portrayal of topical first hand stories of vindicated LGBTQ people across the world that have been disowned by their families and friends after revealing their sexuality.

The discovery that so many have had to flee their country of origin for fear of losing their lives is an area investigated thoroughly and which Never Going Home Again documents and communicates, raising awareness to a wider audience and addressing imbalances towards celebrating diversity.”

Our feature includes an interview with the company AD Adam Rutherford as well as footage from the show. In the interview Mr Rutherford discusses the work and the companies outreach programme that is tackling the issues highlighted by ‘Never Going Home Again’ with young people and school kids.

Although not currently on tour keep an eye on the company website for future performance details. ‘Never Going Home Again’ is performed by Yukiko Masul, Thomas Herron and Francesco Conquista.

Filmed at the Forrest Arts Centre in Walsall on May 20th 2015.
