Danish Dance Theatre ‘End of Loneliness’

We last featured Danish Dance Theatre in 2011 with their UK tour of ‘CaDance’ featuring three works from company director Tim Rushton. This time out the company was on a more limited UK tour with some specially revised works for half of the company’s dancers.

‘End of Loneliness’ (featured here) and ‘Riverside’ were also created by the company’s AD with ‘End of Loneliness’ having first originated in China.

The original publicity text for the piece tells us this much;

“Originally created in China by Danish Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Tim Rushton, “The End of Loneliness” is inspired by the power and magnitude of the Chinese heritage. This intense dance piece is the direct result of an extraordinary and productive collaboration between Danish Dance Theatre and Beijing Dance Theatre.

Imagine a black box with 10 majestic drums decorated in red and gold. Standing proudly at 1.5 meters high, they envelope the stage and invite the dancers into a physically energetic combat. With war-like strength, the music drums the dancers on into a rough and intensive frenzy, preparing for the climax – a brilliant fight between music, dance, form, east and west.”

The works featured are no longer on tour but of course Danish Dance Theatre continues to tour an extensive repertory and new works throughout the year so check their website for details.

‘End of Loneliness’ was performed by Milou Nuyens, Erik Nyberg, Maria Pilar Abaurrea, Csongor Szabo, Elena Martinez Ibar and Jernej Bizjak.

Filmed at Dance City in Newcastle upon Tyne on March 30th 2014.
