Shout: 'Joss Carter Professional Workshop (UK)'

category: workshop, Closes on June 4, 2017

This 7 hour workshop will explore the core fundamentals of Joss' specific movement techniques, choreographic practises and artistic ideologies.

We will commence with a group introduction to communicate a self-awareness of each individual's current states of being creating an open, safe and respectful habitat before progressing to an in-depth approach to the radical techniques of Joss' distinctive training, choreographic and performance methods.

We shall first focus on establishing and exhausting the body through technical and primitive forms of stimulating yet self-disciplined actions/reactions. By incorporating shaking, bouncing, falling, and the expansion and contraction of the kinesphere through reaching with a conscious application of voice and a forced breath we shall begin to energise and unlock the corporeal existence of one-self.

Within this we will explore the intensity of the raw and physical extremes of power and tension to understand a sophistication of softness and relaxation within the 'FLESH and BONE', aiming to strip away the the ego and obtain ecstatic states of purification, liberation and mindfulness in the soul through a safe practise of technicality.

This class will naturally evolve into the conceptual and choreographic explorations of Joss' creative processes including but not limited to:

The discovery of anatomical distortions and obscurities.
Written and vocal text work.
Structured theatrical improvisations with the use of physical imagery.
Group creation of set material.
Choreographic tasks and experiments.
Self-analysis, observations, and group discussions.
Life drawing (paper and pens provided)

Self-discipline, sacrifice, purging and mortification of the physical and mental being is vital to not only expand artistic identity, but to also infiltrate and educate the wellbeing and dexterity of each individual. Through a non-judgemental, honest, caring, sensitive and intimate environment we shall recognise the importance of independence, camaraderie, self contemplation and social congregation.
