After our successful pilot of ChoreoMatch in 2016, we are pleased to announce that ChoreoMatch returns, this time bigger and better! ChoreoMatch is about giving dancers and choreographers the chance to play and experiment with an untested idea, and meet new collaborators in the West Midlands. ChoreoMatch is supported by DanceXchange.
We are looking for a choreographer and up to three dancers to research an untested idea (brought by the commissioned choreographer) in a studio for 10 days. We will select all of the artists involved following a rigorous application process.
Whether you are an experienced choreographer who wants to try something new without the pressure of delivery, or an early career choreographer looking for a way to make new work, this is the commission for you. We are interested in hearing from people across the career spectrum.
The choreographer will bring the idea they want to research, and will be responsible for leading the process. The dancers' role will be to dive into the choreographer's process, assist them in their research, challenge them where necessary and work together to bring their ideas to life. BDN will bring the team together from the applications they receive. The dancers and choreographers may never have met before... It's a bit like internet dating*.
We are looking for bold, brave, open minded dancers and choreographers who are prepared to take risks. The team will be stepping into the unknown and putting their faith in the process by working on a completely new concept with a completely new group of artists, and then sharing an extract of the work with an audience who will give direct written feedback.
It's risky. It's unpredictable. It's an opportunity to try out that idea that keeps you awake at night. It could be the start of something beautiful - it could be a perfect match....
*It's nothing like internet dating...
