Dancer, choreographer and the newly appointed Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company, Tanja Liedtke (30) was killed this past Friday in Sydney Australia after she was hit by a truck in the early hours of the morning.

'The Australian' newspaper is reporting that Ms Liedtke was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital following the accident but later died as a result of her injuries.

She was appointed to the post of Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company earlier this year and was set to take up the post in October. The company issued a brief statement via its website;

"Sydney Dance Company Board Chairman Mr Tom Dery today expressed deep sadness at the sudden tragic death of the Company’s Artistic Director Designate, Tanja Liedtke.

“Our thoughts go out to Tanja’s partner, Solon Ulbrich, and Tanja’s family. The whole Company is in deep shock” Mr Dery said."

Ms Liedtke was perhaps best known to UK and international audiences as a member of DV8 Physical Theatre. She toured in 'The Cost of Living' throughout 2003-2004 and featured in the film version of the same project. More recently she created the full length work 'Construct' which premiered at the Purcell Room in London this past May.
