Featured here, in the Lab, for the very first time we bring you Diversions, the national dance company of Wales no less, with perhaps the most improbably titled dance piece in the history of, well, dance. "Chase the Glowing Hours with Flying Feet" is mixture of high art, technicality and laugh out loud comedy, perhaps the strangest of bedfellows!
Choreographed by Hélène Blackburn, what we have here is the Canadian's particular take on all things to do with communication along with some live piano accompaniment of Bach's "Goldberg Variations".
As ever the PR speak for describing the work is laid out thus;
"Chase the Glowing Hours with Flying Feet, a collaboration between Diversions and Canadian choreographer Hélène Blackburn initially created for the Company's 2005 Autumn tour. This witty and dynamic work is accompanied by an evocative soundscape, and explores communication in its various forms using ensemble movement and intimate dialogue and addressing the whys and whatfors of modern dance.
The Company's artistic policy of only commissioning work from international choreographers who have never worked in the UK before sets it apart from all other UK contemporary dance companies. It means that in the UK it has rapidly gained a reputation for cutting edge, interesting work and premiering some of the world's finest young contemporary dance choreographers, while overseas it is known for being the young choreographer's entree to the UK."
The work is performed by Deborah Ford, Karol Cysewski, Rauol Dumas, Lee Johston, Leanne Lapin, Wayne Parsons, Chris Tandy, Lyndsey Thomas, Eleesha Drennan, Jennifer White, Jo Meredith & Chris Owen.
The company will be touring throughout the spring, check their website for further touring details.
