Video - Panta Rei Danseteater 'Lullaby'
Norwegian dance company Panta Rei Danseteater, late last year, conducted a little experiment whereby three dance makers created two pieces with the same name based on the same idea, featuring three male dancers and two musicians, to see what the outcome was.

This years ceremony was held in the small cupboard at the back of TheLab™, party frocks were optional and we really wish the EvilImp would keep that in mind! Nobody else was invited because, to be honest, there wasn't enough room to swing a cat, even if the cat would cooperate but he's getting on a bit. So, without further ado or ill advised verbal world play, here are the awards for 2007.
Lofty Achievement in Dance Award:
Jasmin Vardimon Company "Justitia": The plot goes a bit wonky in the third act but the superb performances, top notch dance making and a set design of biblical proportions make it the best work this year. If you're wondering how high the bar is in terms of dance theatre then look no further. It does make you wonder why this company isn't a lot higher up on the funding list than they presently are. Maybe that's all set too change? Only time will tell.
Lofty Achievement in Dance Award: Special Mention
All Play "It's Rude To Point": Helmed by Vanessa Cook and Nikki O'Hara this uber portable 15 minute display of dance, theatre and Drumsticks® is the perfect example of dance for the people. It's funny, well crafted and fresh. The next time you're reading a synopsis of Random's new work and you feel like you're going to die, go and see this and your faith will be restored. Touring next year.
Lofty Achievement in Dance Performance Award:
Paul Blackman, Jasmin Vardimon Company: This Australian dancer, trained at WAAPA in Perth, demonstrates stunning performance, theatrical and acrobatic skills throughout 'Justitia'. If you're a male dancer in training and you think you're in for an easy time of it because your male then take a long hard look because more companies are demanding that their y chromosome enabled dancers are just as good as the women!
Lofty Achievement in Dance Performance Award: Special Mention
MK Raw Dancers 2007: We've said it before and we're going to say it again. These guys are living proof that "community" orientated performances can be just as good as the professionals. Superb dance making from the three pro's (Helen Parlor, Nikki O'Hara and Andy Instone) coupled together with almost 60 talented young dancers, far too many to name here, blew the door of the Milton Keynes Theatre. The most exciting thing to happen in Milton Keynes, probably ever!!
Lofty Achievement in Dance Blogging Award:
Danciti: A small, minimal blog based in New York in the USA. Although most of the writing is NY orientated they do have a tendency to dish out some punchy comments on the goings on around the Big Apple. We also have no idea who "they" are. Perhaps they come from the same place as the EvilImp and if so, can they tell us who or what it is?
The Dr. Martin Luther King "Are You F****** Kidding Me Award":
Simone Clarke of the English National Ballet: It was bad enough when this bizarre woman actually joined the BNP claiming to be pretty ignorant of it, for the most part, but now she's getting married to one of its leaders!! We imagine that the sooner she retires the easier the ENB administrators will sleep in their beds of a cold winters evening.
The Alberto Gonzales "Lying Should Be A Constitutional Amendment Award":
First Run Feature: This US DVD distributor was caught out lying about the origin of press quotes for a newly released Dance DVD. They refused to answer questions about it and then, to further cement their place in history as the stupidest people on earth, sent Article19 a press release using the same quotes trying to hawk the DVD and to try and get us to write about it!
The Prince Alwaleed bin Talal "Fiscal Responsibility Award":
The London Olympics: At just over £9Billion, at the time of writing, the 3 week sports event/pharmaceutical convention in 2012 is coming in at just over £3Billion per week to stage. ACE remains silent, the country is half asleep about the issue and an ex Olympic athlete with tupperware hair is running the whole show whilst covering up corruption for FIFA. So good times ahead then?
The Bill Gates "Vista is the Best Thing Since the last Best Thing Award":
Dance and New Media: We have no idea what that phrase means but every time we hear it a shiver runs down our collective spine and we're pretty sure a small furry animal drops dead somewhere in the world and no amount of clapping will bring it back (eh? Ed!) The people who work in this field can either knock it off or do something worth watching, the choice is theirs!
We'll be back in the new year with lots more mayhem for you, in the meantime have a great holiday, here's to 2008!
