On Sunday I start rehearsals for my new piece entitled 'How Odd The Girls Life Looks', and I am very excited to say the least. I will be working with 2 people I have never worked with before along with a dancer I taught and choreographed on from The Space. Apart from getting the piece together in only ten rehearsals, I think the biggest challenge will be getting them to know each other enough to really be able to give me what I want.

My starting point is a poem by Emily Dickinson, 'entitled' (each poem is known by its first line), 'I Heard a Fly Buzz when I Died'. When I first envisaged my Emily Dickinson piece I wanted to do a response to her whole life and works in a big 5 woman piece. However after a very informative chat with the one and only Janet Smith, I decided to keep the concept more contained so I can really delve deep into one thing, and not ten things.

I will be collaborating with video artist Dan Brackenbury. He is really talented and I am so excited to work with him on a project.

Yes, it will be dark and atmospheric, but I have resigned myself to accepting that thats the kind of work I like to create. Dark but exciting, atmospheric but surprisng- there are many valid contradictions I can think of. But guess what? Thats OK!

My ideas so far are to take the poem and really research every word and image that comes out at me.

Wish me luck.
