Article19 Contemporary Dance Online™ is an independent group of like minded individuals committed to promoting and commenting on contemporary dance and the arts whether they be next door or around the darkest side of the earth. We don't pull any punches but we also don't lie or just criticise people for the fun of it. Although making fun of people is rather fun sometimes but we digress.

We also firmly believe that sarcasm is not the lowest form of humour and the truth above all else is what matters when you really get down to it.

Based in the UK and speaking to the world we were born from the news pages of the now defunct DanceServiceUK. Article19 bring you editorial, interviews, music features, reviews, auditions, technology reviews and 25fps streaming video because that's the only way to do it and we know how to do it properly.

Editorial Policy

Article19 exists to provide up to date, accurate information, news, editorial, interviews and feature articles to any reader that cares to key in our URL or click on a link.

We believe that Article19 is a unique resource for contemporary dance on the internet and provides a written voice for those who may otherwise be overlooked in an art form marginalised to within an inch of its life.

As long as contemporary dance exists (by no means guaranteed) we will be right here writing about it and telling you exactly what we think. Article19 will always remain free of charge to its users.

Comment/Editorial

These articles are only written by the editorial staff of Article19 and are related to any issue which may directly or indirectly affect dance in both professional terms, as in relating to professional dancers, and those wishing to take part in dance in some other capacity as either an audience member, dance student, participant in community related project and so on.

Editorials highlight specific issues and reflect only the opinions and views of the particular writer and not necessarily the views of other writers or contributors to Article19.

Interviews

Article19 has a policy of interviewing people because they have something to say not because they are well known or receive large sums of money from funding bodies. Only interviews written in the Question/Answer format are published on Article19. Interviews conducted for the purposes of creating a feature article will use quotes from a tape recording of the conversation with all parties involved.

Interviews are conducted to provide the reader with the interviewee’s particular point of view on any given subject and these views cannot be taken out of context or manipulated by Article19. Interviewee’s are permitted to make adjustments, corrections, clarifications to their responses after publication for a limited time (no more than 3 days) in order to provide the reader with accurate information.

Interviewee’s are not allowed to fundamentally alter the response to a particular question once the article has been published unless there is a legal reason to do so or clarification or accuracy is the issue.

Politics

Support for a particular political party or political agenda will not be published on Article19.

Removal

Once published articles are not removed from Article19 and will forever remain available to users of the site. After publication articles become archive material and enable Article19 to act as a resource for users. Articles may be removed on the basis that the content being removed is being replaced by other content. This will happen rarely, if ever, and is entirely at the discretion of Article19's editorial team. Some pieces may be removed as direct links from the main Article19 website. A such they will only be reachable through a search engine. Article19's internal search system does not keep track of pages that are removed from direct linking.

Video Publishing

Video material is published on a basis of two votes and your are in. All video work is viewed by three people (all connected to the Lab) before publication. At least two of the three must agree that the material is suitable for publication. Factors that may prevent publication are numerous, from poor video quality to a short video segment being unsuitable for representing the work accurately.

The Truth

These two words have been tattooed on the foreheads of all writers and contributors.

Swearing

Is not big and it’s not clever, unless it comes from an interviewee we would rather contributors refrained from it if at all possible. Play nice.
