'Strung' Up!

If like us you wince every time you hear about a dance piece that will be 'utilising technology' and visualise a work strewn with video screens, computers, wires and all manner of nonsense then fear not because 'Strung', the debut performance piece from Falling Cat, will be keeping its hi-tech underpinnings where they belong, round the back in a windowless room full of cobwebs.
Falling Cat's AD, Amanda Drago, describes the new work thus;
"An affectionate take on the split personality as two dancers vie for control in a garden like space. Fusing an original score with sounds and visuals controlled live by the dancers’ movement, Strung takes us into a multilayered private world of strength, tension and beauty."
Utilising a piece of software called 'Isadora' (who thought up that name?) the dancers will literally create much of the audio/visual experience live, as it happens to augment the choreography. If you're expecting some truly awful, screeching noise factory then this is not for you. The music and sound, created by Kit Haigh, sounds like actual music and rather nice music in our opinion.
Visually speaking the video material is back projected onto a large screen behind the dancers - located within the confines of a large open sided structure - and is a real time representation of their movement with some pre-recorded stuff thrown in for good measure.
All of the technology is completely out of the way and invisible to you, the audience, which is how it should be we think.
To quote Ms Drago; "Even if we run out of power, we still have a story to tell!"
