The online petition demanding the UK Government not redirect money from the arts, heritage and grass roots sport to fund the London Olympics is heading toward 25,000 signatures at the time of writing.
According to the online petition website it is currently 9th in the top ten list of most signed petitions. It has long passed the point where it requires a direct response from the Prime Minister.
Ironically the petition requests "The Chancellor" not redirect funding to the Olympics. As of today The Chancellor (Gordon Brown) is now the Prime Minister so just how the response will play out is not really clear.
Arts Council England has already started cutting back on funding, specifically to Grants for the Arts, in anticipation of funding cuts from central government.
