New Culture Minister, Same Story?

The Latest News || Wednesday, 4 July, 2007

Following the Coup d'état resignation of Tony Blair as the Prime Minister and his subsequent replacement by Gordon Brown there was a litle bit of reshuffling going with ministers for various departments coming and going.

Out on her ear is Tessa Jowell as Minister for Culture, Media and Sport. Taking her place is James Purnelll the MP for Stalybridge, Hyde, Dukinfield, Longdendale & Mossley. Which is, contrary to popular belief, a real place.

The arts in the UK are currently (permanently?) in a state of flux because of the funding "crisis" being caused by the London Olympics. It is unclear if Mr Purnell will prove to be more or less effective than Ms Jowell in boosting the case for the arts and continued increases in funding.

Mr Purnell does have a Blog on his website but at the time of writing it was completely empty, the irony of which speaks volumes.

Considering they both work for the same government any massive policy change would be an unlikely occurrence.

We presume the Government will be re-directing additional money away from the arts to the NHS so they can teach their doctors about the dangers of setting fire to cars full of gas canisters and driving them into airport buildings! (too soon? Ed!)

This "news" story has been on the back-burner for several days now. It is, to be honest, excruciatingly boring and it took us all this time just to summon up the energy to write it! Please accept our apologies both for the story and our tardiness.
