Javier to Phoenix

javier.jpgPhoenix Dance Company have announced that Javier De Frutos will be the company's next Artistic Director following the departure of current AD Darshan Singh Bhuller in August of this year.

The release, issued today, quotes Mr De Frutos as saying;

“I feel not only very honoured but very fortunate by this appointment, one that invites me to be a proud part of the history of this great dance institution. Darshan’s leaving the company in such extraordinary shape, more than getting the job, I feel I’ve been given a gift and I can’t wait to unwrap it.”

The company has undergone a resurgence in the last few years after almost vanishing completely under a cloud of artistic confusion and unworkable policies.

Javie De Frutos is perhaps best known, to those of a certain age, as the choreographer who always performed his solo works completely naked. Dance audiences can only hope that his comment about 'unwrapping' his new company is not 100% literal.

Mr De Frutos will take the reigns of the company in the Autumn.
