Dancer Arrested for Drug Possesion

Nilas Martins a 40 year old principal dancer with New York City Ballet was arrested on Tuesday in Saratoga Springs, New York for possession of cocaine.
The company are in Saratoga Springs to present their brand new production of Romeo and Juliet amongst other performances. Mr Martins is the son of the company's Ballet Master; Peter Martins.
The dancer was arrested when a police officer spotted him, along with another dancer from the company, in a parked car allegedly attempting to hide the small bag containing the illegal drugs. If convicted he faces up to seven years in prison if the prosecution can prove "intent to supply". It is more likely the dancer will face a misdemeanor charge that will result in a fine if convicted.
Mr Martins was set to perform this coming week in George Balanchine's 'Apollo', he has since been replaced in that role. He pleaded not guilty during an arraignment later in the day.
