Dance Umbrella 07

The Latest News || Sunday, 16 September, 2007

In todays wide world of dance it appears that not a month goes by without yet another festival hitting the streets attempting to wow us with its wares.

Because it's winter it must be time for Dance Umbrella again and this particular festival has been running for about 400 years (or thereabouts).

For this year the festivals new director has lined up some of the best and the brightest in young, emerging talent with Siobhan Davies, Russell Maliphant, Michael Clark, Amanda Miller, Inbal Pinto and Charles Linehan on the bill. (do I detect a note of sarcasm here? Ed!) We feel sure the collective age of all the dance makers involved will not exceed six figures!

To liven things up this year there will be a number of free events held outside for you to enjoy. That's right, some genius decided that holding a dance event outside, in the UK, in the middle of winter was a good idea! You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried!

One of the outdoor events looks suspiciously like a rip-off homage of Motionhouse's 'Road to the Beach' show from a couple of years back. We're mentioning no names but just keep an eye out for the big diggers!

Dance Umbrella also have a MySpace page and a YouTube page so they can get down with the kids, so to speak.

The bun fight gets underway on October 3rd with Nik Haffner & Thomas McManus and runs until the end of time, or November 10th, whichever comes first!
