Dance UK, Dance Manifesto
The Latest News || Tuesday, 11 July, 2006
Yesterday saw DanceUK, accompanied by several dance 'celebrities', handing over the Dance Manifesto to Minister for Culture; David Lammy on behalf of the dance profession at large.
The 24 page glossy brochure outlines, although not in great detail, certain aims that DanceUK has determined to be important and that central government should consider when deciding policy. The specific aims are;
"Dance to be supported and developed as an art form, Dance to be an integral part of every young person’s education, Dance to be available and affordable for everyone to watch and participate in, Dance to be a sustainable career with world class training."
The document was created after what DanceUK describes as a "six month countrywide consultation process, talking to an extensive cross section of individuals and dance organisations". (They never spoke to us! Ed)
Article19 is seeking an interview with Alistair Spalding of DanceUK to discuss the manifesto in detail.
