The fairytale world is not one that comes to contemporary dance very often but BalletLorent is looking the up the fantasy quota with 'Angelmoth' premiering on the 13th of December in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Telling the story of 'Pippanouska' - don't you just love fairytale names? - the work features an elaborate combination of contemporary dance, period costumes, original music and a set design straight out of a story book.

The publicity tells us;

"Pippanouska is a shadow of the happy child she once was. In the library where she works a band of regular customers come to seek solace and take refuge from the real world. But their lives are about to undergo a breathtaking transformation when they encounter the Angelmoth, an ethereal butterfly-like creature who leads them on a fantastical journey of escapism and wonder..."

Something very different to round off the year in contemporary dance. No word on touring yet but that will come with time we feel sure. You can check out some images from the preview at the link below.

'Angelmoth' premieres at The Dance Lab, Dance City, Newcastle upon Tyne on December 13th and runs until December 16th.
