"impulse to notation" Previous | Main | Next "re: dance goes insane"

it's been one of those weeks, busy, busy, busy... we (niki sheila and myself) were running a youth dance summer school. it all seemed to go well, lots of happy people and parents. I look forward to doing it again soon.
with the support of such good teachers and friends it's so much more enjoyable.

getting ready to leave for norwich, my 'in date' is October but I actually need to be around by September (ish) to get everything sorted. then it's up to birmingham for the hothaus series progression seminar

atthe moment i'm writing on 'epikinetics' and need to meet a deadline, so my work on walk scripts [1,2] has kinda gone on hold, but i'm hoping to have a walkk script paper ready by november. i'm not to worried about this as it means i will have time to collect additional gait data and real-life testing.

Computer-Generated Choreography Revisited has been of use yet again, it seems like such a long time ago that i first looked at it. a recent re-reading revealed this:

it is worth considering whether it is time to introduce a new movement notation based on up-to-date movement studies and more compatible with computer modelling than existing systems.
and...

It would be nice, too, to see more use made of the algorithmic approach to choreography. I believe I have shown that it has potential and that it does bring about new forms of 'narrative' in dance.
they speak for themselves, in the meantime i continue to work on...
