Lewis Wheeler (closed): The Dead Summer

Why does so much go dead around summer? It does in my life anyway.
At least term starts at the end of the month - I'm ashamed to be looking forward to the end of the summer holidays so much!!! (I live on the isle of wight - stay here for any longer than a week and you'd be feeling the same too!)
I've become interested in black & white photography again which is cool. I'm waiting for my enlarger to arrive through the post and I processed some negatives last night. Which was very nearly a disaster of chemical spillages and fogging but eventually worked!
What I want to try with photography is to create a dance to be viewed only through photographs. In either exhibition format or as a photo album/sketch book. Similar (but not choreographically) to the dance that was produced purely for video on channel 4's first episode of that dance series - I'm sure it has a proper name, I just don't have a proper memory!).
It will be interesting to play around with different formats of presentation of the photo; a comic book style (and the research on which will be fun!) - is one idea but I saw some photos recently where there were 3 rectangular prints next to each other - two were full size, one was just the edge of what was obviously the same size photo. The two fullsize pictures contained the same scene with a difference - like the camera had been moved two feet to the right, or a person had shifted position but very similar none the less. The "edge" of a photo contained a completely different scene altogether and the overall piece contained a strong sense of direction/narrative style. So I would like to experiment with ways to put photos together like that.
I'd like to do it because I find B&W photography an evocative medium to work with and the challenges involved in taking a subject which is about movement and only looking at it through still images is something I find intriguing and will hopefully provide some interesting results. I'll find them interesting anyway!
I'm moving to Scotland in two weeks so I'll be able to go to some of the shows in the fringe festival - I've never been before so that I'm really excited about! I don't know what I want to see yet but I've read some reviews which sound interesting - I'll let you know what I think after I've been.
I really need to go down the gym - I haven't been for ages because I spent some time working for one of my friends as her carer, and then my cousins came down to the island and now lethargy has started to set in. Which is such an ugly word that I'll guilt trip myself into going asap......I could start with the stretch and relax class tomorrow! lol. - At Coventry we had to attend at least two v.intense aerobic and resistance training sessions a week to pass one of the modules, I'm gonna miss that!
Anyway....I've purged myself of thoughts for now so I'll go away!
