"it's just not riveting enough"

So I'm back in Edinburgh after our trip to London. I'm glad to be back and I have a few days off before I start work next week with LittleWhiteHouse for our residency at Dance Base.

So how was Resolution!?

Well it was very good actually. The 3 hours we had for tech were good and Graham, the tech guy who we were working with to design the lights was fantastic, really helpful and interested in what we were doing.

It was one of the most bizarre performances of my life though, some thing strange but amazing happened. I assumed that I was going to be nervous and even afraid, but when we stepped on stage and did what we did, I just felt calm, grounded and completely in control and it was wonderful! The audience somehow were not there, and it was only myself and Svenja, I really felt amazing.

I suppose it's development, development as a professional and a Dancer. I spent alot of time just being calm and there is actually no reason to be afraid, it was a great feeling. Anyway, the performance for us felt very strong and we felt good about what we did, which is the most important thing. We got alot of great feedback from people who came to see too, which is also incredibly important.

However, and here's the fun part, the lovely reviewers who reviewed the work weren't too keen. Reviews are bizarre things, I'm really not interested in them, I don't find it to be very important, so I wasn't too disappointed with what they had to say, plus I know how judgemental they are during the Resolution! season and I find reviewers far to presumptious to care about what they think about the work. Look deeper and you shall see my dears.

We did have a good one from Graham Watts of Ballet.co.uk who said:

"Sharing the bill with Mukherjee were Jack Webb and Svenja Hamel in a short duet, 'You, Except Broken', which managed to be both energetic and surprisingly romantic and danced throughout with a clarity of purpose and emotion"

Overall it was a great experience and I feel like we presented work that was of a high standard and actualy interesting. We did go to see one of the performances and I was disappointed with the level of the work being platformed but then that's what happens I suppose when no one actually sees the work before it is selected.

We will recieve a DVD soon so I'll try to get it online.

And now?

Well on Monday my company, LittleWhitehouse will be in residence at Dance for 2 weeks, returning to a work we started a year ago. I'm really looking forward to it!
