Patient 319

I think sometimes I forget that this blog gets read, a phenomenon of the internet. You feel like its just your self out there, typing on to a screen. I like writing so I keep on typing.

This week I had a new experience and blog reader sent me a link to his work. My first response was 'I have a reader!!' (I do that every time I get a comment too). Then I watched the video. I enjoyed it so thought I'd share.

Thanks Quang.

I'd done ballet to about elementary with the AAD...I wouldn't worry too much, just enjoy it. The audition is a ballet, contemporary class and solo. I hope all goes well!

Thanks Hannah! So you had no core ballet training, I am taking intermediate RAD?! Not sure if that helps my chances though! Was the standard of Ballet hard? Am i right in thinking the audition is a ballet class and solo?
    My audition is 30th March!

I am an avid reader of your blog, your insights are so lovely to read! I had my audition for the degree course at Northern on saturday and got a place! I am feeling a bit ridiculous though and was wondering if you knew when I'll hear from the school, will I get a letter of confirmation in the near future? I'm sorry for being such a pest, I'm just scared i misheard them when they said that I had a place!
You have plenty of readers though, I'm sure! Your blogs are awesome, I read through all of them the night before my audition to get myself in the zone! :)

Hi Jess, sorry for my slow response..school is crazy! Congratulations! I'm sure you'll here very shortly, they normally send a letter I think. If you are really worried call up and ask what the procedure is, that will put your mind at ease!

Thanks you very much for reading the blog. I'm glad that you enjoy them and it helped prepare you!

Wow! Well done, do you think you could tell me a few things also? Like, what the audition was like - the standard of people..
What level your techinique is at
Your solo, contemporary, lyrical? etc :-)

Hiya, yours is the only blog i could find on auditioning for dance schools! I am particularly interested in Laban, NSCD and LSCD! Do you have any idea why you were not successful.. it scares me cause you sound so very experienced! What technique, ballet exp. had you had at the time? What were your solo's etc like? I love your blog, it's so insightful other than being a candidate at a dance school x

hi julia, i'm sorry for the late reply. school has been very busy this week! well, I have no idea why I wasn't successful in my auditions..but remember I may sound experienced now but those auditions I was referring to were about 5 years ago, so i am definitely more experienced now than I was then! I had been dancing since I was 3 at a local dance school just for fun where we did ballet tap and modern, but it was merely a hobby, and I wasn't 'trained' or technical in any sense. I'd done contemporary for 2 years as an Alevel in dance and had a year living in NYC taking classes there. My solo was 1st solo was as contemporary as my knowledge at the time..I did it to fatboy slim 'hey boys hey girls'. I wouldn't dream of doing that now! My second solo after I'd done the foundation at NSCD and lived in berlin for 9 months and been to a dance school there (as I didn't get a place after foundation directly on to the degree) was much more contemporary and had an abstract music sound scape.

I would also say just be your self as you are at this point in time, don't try and be what you think they want. And remember that each school has its own 'style' and preference of dancers, so even if you don't get a place that doesn't mean you are not good. You just might not fit their vision.

I hope that helps! Good luck. I'm glad you enjoy the blog!

    Hannah
