It's an experience thing....

How many of us have heard that before huh?

There seems to be a fixation in the dance world about experience, your not considered an experienced dancer until you've worked with...well everyone in the world apparently?!

I know many people who've busted their chops throughout their training to get enough experience to be taken seriously in the professional world. Even if it means that they're so busy your degree marks actually take a bit of a hit.

Just so at a audition some one won't say "its an experience thing..."

But how do you define Experience?

Big experience, small experience, good experience, bad experience...

I mean its all f???ing experience!

Surely it's what you take from it not what you've done? You could work with all the biggest choreographers in the world and still not have learned anything (unlikely but could happen!)

Who's to say you won't learn more from working in the studio by yourself or with friends than you ever will from strictly come dancing stardom?! (you know it's what we all want!)

It's a ridiculous concept, if someone's right for the work then that's it. Hire them!

But wait...they've never worked for a company that's regularly funded before?! Who cares?!

If you've completed 3 years dance training you're not stupid, and can learn just as fast as anyone else, plus nowadays most the training is tougher than most professional contracts!

And surely it's nice having someone who will appreciate what there learning...

Nobody likes a know it all anyway.
