Cafe Peel at Dance City

Editors Letters || Friday, 28 October, 2005

With regards to Cafe Peel, we are an independent cafe who pay rent to DanceCity. As the chef I am trying my hardest to offer healthy nutricious food at a reasonable price to the students and staff.

From what I gather from your little bitching session you did not read the menu as we are actually very fairly priced and are giving free fruit to all the students who buy a sandwich with us.

We do not have a lunch item on our menu above four pounds, I find this more than cheap and most of the students have been thankfull and expressed how happy they are with us! By the way we sell chilled bottled water for 90p.

The presence of the word "independent" in the paragraph should have tipped you off that we already knew that. Secondly, if you have bottled water at 90p then I can only imagine how small it must be compared to the bottle I paid £1.20 for. Either that or overcharging is part of your business plan.

Your prices compare with other restaurants in Newcastle, which is part of the problem, restaurants are expensive and simply being just as expensive as everywhere else is little reason to celebrate.

It is unsurprising that dancers/students using DanceCity will in-turn use Cafe Peel simply for the sake of convenience if nothing else. Such behaviour is indicative of a culture that is treated poorly then says thank you in return.

By the way, dancers tend not to like chilled water, room temperature, it's a biological thing, I won't bore you with the details.
