The Weblog of Catherine Bell: My First Submission

This week we have had class, and a choreography session with Gill Clarke every day. I'm on my lunch break as we speak. So far it has been really interesting, but a bit of a struggle at the same time.
I think this is because the work/movement is very, very release based (a technique I haven't really experienced for over a year), and although i find it is a very free way of moving it is however very specific in it's anatomical requirements! i.e shifting from the pelvis, freeing the skull. Today we examined the spine in detail through diagrams, and long graphics with partners, which left my head feel like it was floating!!
My first term here at SSCD (Scottish School Contemporary Dance) has been spent in a very disciplined regime of Ballet, Cunningham and Graham based teqhniques. This has already made me much stronger, but sometimes it is possible to forget how to move as an individual dancer, as me. So, this week has been a complete contrast and i hope will compliment the strength I have gained throughout the term.
Will update next week.
