The Weblog of Catherine Bell: I am so Tired!

This week our class have been making movement for a piece Angus is devising for us. Improvising takes so much energy! During the day I am fine-full of beans, but as soon as I sit down in my chair i'm exhausted! Am enjoying his teaching so much though. He is very enthusiastic about everything, and makes you feel that yes, by the end of the week I could be walking on my hands!! (this is something we have been practising most days). Apparently the key to most floor work is strong wrists, and making friends with the floor.
That last bit is something I came to terms with today. I have always been quite suspicious of the floor, more of a case of cath-v-the floor, rather than cath and the floor working together to make beautiful pieces!! That's lots of ballet for you, it makes you upright! We are creating movement in loads of different ways.
For instance yesterday we watched a video of a really powerful waterfall for 1/2 hour, today we were given phrases or lines from poetry people had created, sometimes we close our eyes in pairs and either lead or be led over and around each other. It's amazing to observe this process, people move so organically (more than possibly a pretentious word!) with their eyes closed, it is extremely intimate, and soft without sight. More risk is taken with regards to taking and giving weight because they move through positions, and places.
I should have more energy when classes get back to normal to write more, now it's a long walk home, food (lots), tv (friends), bath, and finally bed. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
