The Weblog of Catherine Bell: A Twisted Ankle
Friday, Nov 1 2002, 12:34
For the first time in however many years dancing i've got injured! I use the term loosely though cos i have only twisted my ankle! It looks shocking though, all blue and swollen. In my experience people tend to always get injured whilst doing the strangest things. You'd think it should happen whilst doing 32 fouettes on pointe, or a flying leap, but no! It's usually " i was trying to kneel, and my leg fell from under me!?" or, " i rolled over my own arm and it dislodged itself from it's socket".
In my case a friend was literally trying to drag me up to dance last night (this was the beginning of the night so no I wasn't drunk), and I fell over one side of my ankle. OUCH! Not particularly graceful. Obviously in true dancer style I had to then have a lengthy examination of the foot in question, in front of the whole pub who had gathered to witness/laugh at this.
Did not make it into class this morning because i was attending to my head, no i mean my ankle! My flat mate has also got an injured ankle at the moment so bright old me thought she'd excuse us both at the same time when ringing in this morning. The receptionist didn't seem to believe my me, and my tutor had the following message on his desk this morning:
"Catherine Bell and Lorna Borrett will not be in this morning because they have both twisted their ankles!"
Had an assessment yesturday, which went quite well. Think it did anyway! Do feel like i am progressing here, in lots of different ways. It makes such a difference having two technique classes every day. At university we only had one at most, and it was difficult to remain as focused and motivated as you would aspire to be. Here is all about the dancing, and I don't have to divide myself.
