Bryony Mylroie Smith: Will all of my entries start with an apology?!

"Another Apology" Previous | Main | Next "Summer Term"

Yet again, very sorry as its been so long since i last blogged! I dont really have an excuse, so lets get down to business....when was it that i last wrote? 22nd February?! Right, lots to tell then!

Firstly, Choreography...for the choreog unit we were given three options of stimuli; the statue in the foyer of the space, some text from 'A Midsummer nights dream' or a piece of music. I was in two pieces where the choreographers had picked the statue as stimulus. I had lots of extra rehersals with Evy (one of my choreographers)befor we had to perform the pieces, many of these eating into evenings, i think it was on thursday the 3rd March that i was actually in college 8am til 9pm!!! In the end it all worked out well for the pieces i was in, both choreographers got a good grade and Sindy said that myself and Svenja had responded well to Evy's choreography and shown it in the way we danced, which was good to hear!

As for my piece i had finished it a week early and was all ready to go about spending the last week before the assessment cleaning the material and working on the style. It was probably tempting fate by having so much prepared as when i came in on the monday a week prior to the assessments i was greeted by the fact that one of my dancers was injured and still at home in Aberdeen!!!

I spoke to Sindy about it and she gave me three options-i do it, i teach someone else it, or, i wait til michelle was better!I waited til Michelle was better, and i'm glad i did, i got a great mark and was so proud of both myself and my dancers!

As i said in my previous entry we worked with the second years on site specific performances around the space. I was working with Sarah (weblogging sarah!!!) and Gillian. Both pieces were outdoors but both pieces were very enjoyable! We were out in the snow the first week, rain the second week, and performance week we were out in the dark!

Sarah's piece involved lots of banging against windows and fences. I think in that piece Khardine had the toughest time as she had to climb along the top of the fence with the rest of us pushing her from beneath, it looked really quite good though, although she had bruises from head to toe throughout the rehersal period! Poor thing!

In Gillian's piece we were performing just outside the green room. It got so slippy out there when it rained, one day in rehersal i was extending out into a press up position when somehow my hands slide from beneath me and i ended up flat on my front completely soaked! I saw the funny side though, not to worry!
