"One week to go!!!!" Previous | Main | Next "Sorry"

Home at last! Back in Yorkshire to see my friends and family! But anyway, on to the subject of dance! The last week was tiring, I think everyone was exhausted and ready for a holiday but at the same time excited about our showing on Wednesday.

We had a completely different timetable this week from the usual, it involved lighting rehearsals and dressed rehearsals and cleaning of pieces but we still had technique classes with Kim in ballet and Laura in contemporary.

Monday we set the lighting and then we did a run through with the lights. I felt like this went really badly, (for me, not particularly as a run through but personally) but after having feedback in the afternoon we ran through the pieces and I felt more confident.
Tuesday was pretty tiring also, we did a costume and lighting run which was really good, I loved it and it began to sink in that we were actually going to be performing on Wednesday.

We did a REALLY good run through in the morning where everyone gave at least 110% in everything. Tuesday evening I received a note from the postman saying I had a parcel to collect from the post office, it was my costume for Wednesday’s performance-finally getting through the Christmas postal rush!

Wednesday morning I got up extra early and went into town picked up my dress for the fast piece (WOOHOO!) and then went to college. I arrived at 8 so did some warming up in the green room as all the studios were taken. At nine we had ballet with Kim, it was quite a relaxed class that seemed to go really fast.

Before I knew it we were back into rehearsals in the theatre, we had a dress rehearsal in the morning and then feedback in the afternoon. Laura was going to give us two rehearsals in the afternoon but as she didn’t want to over do it we just did the one run through in the afternoon. This didn’t go as well as the first run through of the day, I was kind of glad though because I always think a show goes better if the last dress run isn't so good.... does that make sense?

At 5.30 we had a warm up class with Laura, it was our last class with her as she's leaving after Christmas and so it was a bit sad but everyone was hyped for the show!

I didn’t know how many people to expect that evening, I thought that more people would be interested as it was free, but I also thought it wouldn’t be that full as it was midweek and quite early. I got a shock when I walked out onto stage with the rest of my group and the audience was COMPLETELY full! I think because we had such a good supportive audience we not only danced but performed.

Everyone danced really well and it was sooooo good.
After the show we came out into the bar area to see that Baptiste, Ruth, and Ricardo from Scottish dance theatre had come to see us as promised, they said it was really good, as did many other people I spoke to during the night.

I was really proud of everyone, and I'm glad that so many second and third years came to see us because it was their first opportunity to see us really dance and I think we all danced our best!

After the show we presented Laura with some thank you presents and wished her the best of luck with everything, she'll be missed! On behalf of everyone dancing onstage that night I'd just like to say thank you again to Laura and the rest of the team, and best of luck Laura for whatever u turn to next!

Merry Christmas, I’ll be writing again in January!
