The commission will then be rehearsed in February/March 2010 for another 3 weeks prior to the international premiere performance at Dance Umbrella Festival - Johannesburg (1 date between 3-14 March). Following a successful tour in Spring 2009, SOE are re-touring Mission Possible in Autumn 2009. The show comprises of 3 works, based around issues to do with boys and young men and their role models, choreographed by 3 British choreographers; Jeanefer Jean-Charles, Kwesi Johnson and Colin Poole.

We are looking for one versatility male performer with the ability to work in a fusion of styles - Jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, street dance and/or breaking with professional training/experience to step into the shoes and learn the part of a previous dancer. Education work will run alongside this project, so teaching skills would be welcomed. Although the company is known for its dedication to the promotion of black dance, we are actively seeking dancers from all cultural backgrounds to be part of this programme.

Project dates:

Featherstonehaughs (UK)

Thursday, 14 May, 2009

The Featherstonehaughs are looking for very interesting and exciting male performers for a Research and Development project this year that will eventually lead to the creation of new touring work and reconstruction of repertory for performance in 2010. The company seeks committed performers with at least 2 years professional experience.

The project will focus on the development of new working methods for a new piece as well as incorporating reconstruction and reworkings of existing repertory (The Featherstonehaughs 'Draw On The Sketchbooks of Egon Schiele').

The initial research for the new work will include sampling movement from the work of Rainer Fassbinder. This will entail teasing out the movement of what you actually see in the film frame from what you "know" is being depicted in the film.

These methods will require performers to be visually perceptive with an eye for detail and a taste for new movement forms. Strong physical skills though not necessarily a formal dance training are required. The ability to work in a team in a collaborative way is also helpful, as we want to create a strong ensemble.

This new ensemble will consist of a group of sympathetic and contrasting individuals who are excited by the idea of spending extended periods of time in a studio developing the choreography of Fassbinder and examining expressionist art works.

Only highly self-motivated individuals with curiosity and passion, humour and patience need apply. You will need to know something about The Featherstonehaughs' work and know why you want to be in this company.

Schedule of events:

Stage 1. Audition workshop week (London)
One week - Monday 21st to Saturday 26th September. Performers should be available for the week but may not be asked to stay for all six days.

Selected participants from Stage 1 will be invited to take part in Stage 2.

Stage 2. Four weeks full time rehearsal at The Place, London in November '09 (paid)

Selected participants from Stage 2 will then be invited to continue the research to create touring work in April-July 2010.

To apply:
Please send a statement about yourself and any relevant experience and C.V. along with a photograph would also like you to send a short DVD or QuickTime file (no longer than 3 minutes) of yourself. We need to receive your application by Friday June 26th 2009
