SDT

Alice Wilkin's Blog || Tuesday, 28 October, 2008

Last week I went to watch SDT perform the works "Tenderhook" by Liv Lorent and "DOG" by Hofesh Shechter. As mentioned in my last blog, I had been working with the company the week before.

Whilst the company were at SSCD Janet Smith had allowed us to watch the company rehearse these pieces. Therefore seeing the dancers perform on stage after watching them in a less formal environment beforehand was particularly interesting.

I felt that "Tenderhook" was a beautiful piece of choreography and performance. The lighting effects and design really enhanced the movement and idea behind the dance.

However in some ways I preferred watching "DOG" in the rehearsal as opposed to on the stage. Perhaps the lighting in this piece in my opinion wasn't as necessary. I had enjoyed watching the dancers in rehearsal because I could clearly see the dance they had seemed 'real'; whereas the dark lighting effects in performance seemed to disguise them and therefore I felt less of a connection to the piece.

The two pieces SDT performed that night were extremely contrasting, and therefore displayed the versatility of the company. I am looking forward to seeing future works by the company.
